Walker adaptation for Christian

About Christian

Christian, 73, has been dealing with progressive after-effects from a minor stroke and a car accident.
After years of intensive Nordic walking and before being confined to a wheelchair, a walker now helps him feel secure—but his arms and upper body have become stiff.
His gait is no longer natural; his shoulders don’t swing in opposition to his pelvis, and he’s losing the habit of alternating arm and leg movements. As he puts it, he “moves like a slug.”

Challenge

Christian’s goal is to continue physical activity despite balance issues, and to support both body and mind through aging—fighting senescence, not senility.
The proposed challenge is to adapt one of his two walkers to transform the circular motion of the wheels into linear movement of the handles and oscillatory motion of the arms, while maintaining stability.
In short: to integrate one of his walkers into a natural walking kinetic pattern.
