Michelle lives with the consequences of a spinal ischemia resulting in incomplete paraplegia. She leads a very active life and pursues her passion for playing the piano in her free time. Playing the piano is an important part of her daily routine and contributes significantly to her quality of life.

Challenge

Due to the incomplete paraplegia, the function of her lower limbs is insufficient to operate the piano’s foot pedal. As a result, Michelle is severely restricted when playing the piano and cannot use the pedal as she normally would. Her great wish is to be able to play the piano again with as few limitations as possible. One possible solution is to develop an adapted foot pedal or an alternative pedal control system that matches her individual motor capabilities. This would enable her to reliably operate the piano pedal once more.
