About Patrick

My nickname is "Scherz," and I am 31 years old. Since my mountaineering accident in 2022, I have been living with complete paraplegia and a severe traumatic brain injury. Professionally, I work as a forestry engineer. Nature is very close to my heart, and all my leisure activities allow me to experience it up close. Since becoming paraplegic, I am constantly amazed at the possibilities that remain despite the limitations. HackaHealth is supporting me with a telescopic grabber, so that I can still lay out my paraglider by myself before take-off.

Challenge

Patrick lives with complete tetraplegia after a traumatic brain injury but remains a very active person. He enjoys sports such as skiing, cycling, and especially paragliding, which gives him a sense of freedom and independence. Currently, he relies on support to lay out his paraglider before take-off.

His idea is a telescopic or foldable grabber that allows him to prepare the wing on his own. The tool should be lightweight, stable, and easy to handle. The goal of the project is to give Patrick more independence in sports and enable him to pursue his passion for paragliding autonomously.
